Motorbike rental in Colombia: everything you need to know before you rent

Traveling through Colombia by motorcycle is an unforgettable experience. To make sure your adventure is surprise-free, check these details before you sign any rental agreement.

1. Rent from a legally established company

Make sure the company has a real physical office you can visit, and check its reviews on Google Maps, TripAdvisor and social media.

2. Make sure your bike will be ready

Some agencies cancel bookings at the last minute because they run out of bikes. Choose a partner who guarantees your motorcycle on the agreed date.

3. Understand the full price

Confirm whether the published rates include taxes and insurance. Our prices include 19% VAT and are published on our website.

4. Ask for current photos of the bike

Check tires, brakes, chain and lights, and make sure SOAT insurance and technical inspection are up to date.

5. Ask about roadside assistance

What happens if the bike breaks down or you have an accident? Is there 24/7 assistance, a tow truck or a replacement bike?

6. Read the insurance conditions

Know exactly how the deductible works and what is covered. With us the deductible is 15–20% and punctures or tire damage are not covered.

7. Learn the local rules: Pico y Placa

Medellín restricts motorcycles on weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. based on the first digit of the license plate. Some tunnels and roads under construction also have restrictions.

8. Ask where you are allowed to ride

Some agencies don't let you leave the city or the department. With Rentamotos you can ride all over Colombia.

9. Choose the right bike for the terrain

Colombia is mountainous. If you plan to ride dirt roads, pick a dual-sport such as the Honda XRE300, XR190 or Hero Xpulse 200.

10. Check extra charges and office hours

Washing, missing fuel, extra gear or after-hours delivery may cost extra. Most offices are not open 24/7, so schedule pick-up and return in advance.
