Renting a motorcycle in Medellín is one of the best decisions you can make to get to know Antioquia. The freedom of two wheels lets you stop at off-the-beaten-path viewpoints, reach towns the bus doesn’t go to and get around the city without losing hours in traffic.
Medellín also has a huge motorcycle culture: thousands of people get around by bike every day, and on weekends the roads to Santa Elena, Guatapé and Santa Fe de Antioquia fill up with travelers. It is the perfect starting point to discover the region.
What to check before renting a motorcycle
- Bike condition: brakes, lights, tires, chain and oil levels. Ask for recent photos or check the bike when you pick it up.
- Documents: a valid motorcycle license and ID. Foreigners can use their home-country license (see requirements).
- Insurance: make sure the price includes theft, third-party and accident insurance, and ask how much the deductible is.
- Mileage: some plans have a daily mileage limit. Choose your plan based on the route you will ride.
- Safety gear: a certified helmet for you and your passenger, and a reflective vest.
- Assistance: ask whether there is 24/7 roadside assistance and a tow truck in case of a breakdown.
At Rentamotos Colombia all of this is included: 2 helmets, 2 vests, insurance, SOAT, technical inspection, 24/7 assistance and towing. You can see every bike and its price in our price list.
Which bike should you choose?
To get around the city, an automatic scooter such as the Kymco Twist 125 or the Yamaha NMAX 155 is comfortable and affordable. If you are heading out on the road with unpaved stretches, the ideal choice is a dual-sport such as the Honda XRE300 or the XR190.

Tips for riding safely in Antioquia
Always wear a fastened helmet and protective clothing, follow traffic rules and keep in mind Medellín’s pico y placa restriction. In the mountains the weather changes fast: bring a rain jacket and check the forecast before you leave.
